Real-time and WebSocket development

WebSocket and event-driven systems for live data, notifications, and streaming use cases.

  • Node.js
  • WebSockets
  • TypeScript
  • AWS
  • React

Who this is for

  • Products that need live updates: dashboards, notifications, collaborative features
  • Teams whose WebSocket connections drop or fall out of sync
  • Apps that must record events reliably, without losing data when something restarts
  • Builders of widgets, overlays, and tools that react to live events

What you get built

  • WebSocket servers in Node.js, with authentication
  • Live dashboards and real-time front ends
  • Event pipelines that store what happened so nothing is lost
  • Reconnection and state-sync logic so clients recover cleanly
  • Admin panels for managing and inspecting live systems

Typical engagement scope

Real-time design

Decide which data really needs to be live, how clients stay in sync, and what happens when a connection drops.

Build and break it

Implement the system, then test the failure cases on purpose: disconnects, restarts, duplicate and out-of-order events.

Observe and hand off

Logging and monitoring so you can see connections and events, plus documentation your team can work from.

Common questions

WebSockets or simpler polling - which do I need?+

If updates must reach users within a second or two, or flow both ways, WebSockets are the right tool. If data changes slowly, polling is simpler and cheaper to run. I'll recommend the lighter option when it's enough rather than over-building.

How do you stop real-time systems losing events?+

By not treating the live connection as the source of truth. Events are recorded durably, clients can catch up after a disconnect, and handlers are written to cope with duplicates. That way a restart or a dropped connection doesn't mean lost data.

Can you fix an existing real-time feature?+

Yes. Dropped connections, events that sometimes don't arrive, and state that drifts out of sync are common and fixable. I'll start by reproducing the problem and finding the actual cause rather than guessing.
